Appointments
There are several ways to submit medical information and request an appointment with the surgery. You can:
Please avoid making appointments for self-limiting viral illnesses like cough, colds, diarrhoea. Antibiotics will not help viral illnesses. Remember you can also get advice from the pharmacist. This will allow doctors to see patients who need urgent attention. Please also note that consultations with the doctor are limited to the patient who has booked the appointment.
GP appointments will be provided after your medical request has been triaged by a clinician. Some issues require a same-day appointment whilst others will require a routine appointment. Routine appointments are offered if your medical issue is not urgent, or for any issues that cannot be dealt with by your local pharmacy.
Routine appointments are booked up to 2 weeks in advance for a GP for new issues.
Appointments can be in person or via a telephone call. This can be decided by you unless the GP deems an in-person appointment necessary.
Nursing appointments can be booked up to 4 weeks in advance.
Please remember that standard appointments are for 10 minutes; the doctor or nurse will not be able to deal with multiple problems in a single appointment. Please let the receptionist know when you book the appointment if you think you may need a longer appointment. Situations where you will always need a longer appointment are:
- For cervical smear screening
- For an annual review for something like asthma, heart disease, lung disease, diabetes, mental health
- Where an interpreter is needed
- Our extended hours at the surgery are 7.00am to 8.00am and 6.00pm to 8.30pm on Monday, 7.00 to 8.00 on Friday, and 7.00am to 12.00pm on selected Saturdays. These extended hours appointments are designed to accommodate patients who may find it difficult to attend during regular hours due to work or other commitments. Attendance is strictly by appointment only.
- Home visits are only available for patients who are housebound because of illness or disability. Please try to telephone reception between 8.00am and 10.30am if you require a home visit. Please remember that several patients can be seen in the practice in the time that it takes to make one home visit. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the surgery. A doctor or nurse may phone you back as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by telephone advice, or indeed arrange a casualty attendance.
- Emergency appointments are for Urgent illnesses, Children under 3 and Palliative care patients.

Emergencies are situations that cannot be managed at home and may be life-threatening.
Non-urgent situations
If you need medical advice or to see a doctor, call 111. Someone will be available to provide you with advice and direct you to a clinician if necessary.
